Online Marketing in the time of Coronavirus

South Africa has been on a nationwide lock-down since 26 March 2020 and many small businesses (and the economy as a whole) have felt the burden and pressure that this has placed on their income and daily business activities.

BUT we have noticed something very important that all businesses should take into account. Due to the restrictions on movements, customer behaviour has changed and digital consumption has increased on all digital platforms. People are spending more time online than they have ever before and this is a huge advantage for YOUR business.

With most of the world's economy down, digital platforms are on a high!

1. There has been a big increase in the number of online searches and online purchases.
2. There has been an increase in the number of online customer-related enquiries.
3. There is an increased focus on community

So how can you support the change in customer behaviour and the increase in digital consumption?
  • Create awareness on all social media platforms. Don't stop posting during the lock-down (or because you feel that your business can't function during this pandemic). It is vital to stay online and present - now more than ever. Make use of social media, Google Ads and Google Business Profiles.
  • Inform and reassure your customers of the services you have available during the lock-down. Update your social media pages and Google My Business profile with your new operating hours and emergency contact details.
  • GIVE BACK when your clients are feeling at their lowest. This strategy might not bring in sales immediately, but you will be building leads for future growth.
  • Leverage your digital platforms to keep your customers engaged and to build strong relationships.
  • Create ad campaigns. The latest trend we are seeing is that paid ads are becoming cheaper.
This might not be the time to share very promotional/ sales focused content, but that doesn't mean that your brand shouldn't be online. Invest in digital marketing now and your business will come out of this stronger and better!
